Leopard Print Skirt

I made a cute skirt! I drafted it myself by using a skirt that I like the shape of. I traced it, added seam allowances, then voila! A beautiful skirt. There is an invisible zipper on the side. It's very soft, 100% cotton and I think flannel. YES! I cannot wait to wear this to work tomorrow. :)

Don't mind the weird rouching...it's because I was standing funny. Hehe

Pumpkin pie and sewing goodies!

Matt made me a pumpkin pie with a graham cracker crust for my birthday dessert (per my request) and now it's gone and I'm sad. :(

Also, I made a cute little box bag using THIS tutorial. It's a really great tutorial. Very clear with lots of pictures. I especially like how this one is fully lined and all of the seams are hidden. I'm definitely going to make a lot more of these! I already have 3 more cut, interfaced, and ready to go!

Yesterday, I went to the Portage Quilt House because they are having a huge 50% off sale! Also, I got to use my gift certificate that I got from Judy for my birthday. :):):):):):):):)
They had these adorable hot pads...so I had to get the pattern. Aren't they adorable!?!

Here's the fabric I picked out for them. One for a girl owl and one for a boy. How cuuuuuteee. hehehe Although in hindsight, I'm not really sure why I would make a boy owl..ah well. He will be cute anyway.

And then.....loooooook what I got for myself!!!! Hehehe It's BEAUTIFUL and SOFT! It's 100% cotton, but I think it's a flannel...but you can't tell by looking at it that it's flannel. So, I'm going to make a skirt. I want to get more to make THIS jacket, but I just can't decide if the material would work well for it. That's why I think I will test out the material on a skirt first. :)

Kay Unger Dress

Yay! I finished my Kay Unger dress! I really really like it a lot. It fits perfectly (well after some small adjustments..) Here are some detail pictures of the rouching, how I fixed the front to fit me bet

Pattern: V1241 Kay Unger, Vogue
Fabric: Charmeuse satin for exterior, China silk polyester for interior, both purchased from http://www.fabric.com/
Size: 12
Adjustments: I shortened the shoulders by approx 1". Also, I folded the front section over because it was sticking out too far from my body. It looked fine from the front, but from the side view it looked very strange. I also sewed up the crossover in the front so it wouldn't gape open. Everything else fits perfectly.

Here's a close up of the front rouching:

Left: How I folded over the front section   Right: The bottom hem in the back

Here are the bottom pictures and the hook & eye (obviously I still can't quite figure out how to do this properly...I don't know what I'm doing wrong.)

And for the modeling picutres:

Sorry, I know...picture over load!! Hehehe. Anyways, I'm very happy with this dress.

Knitted Tee-Shirt

Pattern: Yosemite
Size: XS
Yarn: Debbie Bliss Prima, 10 skeins

I really like it except for a few things. My yarn dyed my hands and when I soaked it in vinegar once the sweater was complete, it didn't help. The water turned blue after 9 bajillion rinses. And then because I rinsed it so much...the collar stretched. Ugh! It still fits okay, but I'll probably turn blue each time I wear it and the collar is bigger than expected. How annoying!!!

I couldnt' find buttons, so I made my own using some fabric I had that matched. :) Yay!

ALMOST DONE!!!

It's SO CLOSE to being done!!!!!!!!!!! Here are some "I can't wait until it's actually done because I'm too dang excited" pictures:

It needs some ironing as you can tell by the huge crease going across my butt...

Yay!!!

I did have to redo the shoulders to make them about an inch shorter. That was interesting..but luckily it wasn't hemmed yet so I could still kind of turn it inside out and redo them. Otherwise, the front was gaping really badly. It still needs to be tacked down at the cross section, though.

So...

I have to finish the hem, add the hook & eye, tack down the front, iron.

Then...DONE! And more pictures. :)

Oh boy...

Okay, sorry for the repetition in my last two posts...apparently my memory is worse than I remembered...

Aromatherapy Pillows

I am making aromatherapy pillows to sell. I am having fun with these! My knitting group gave me a really great idea to embroider nice words on them:

Back side:

So now I just need to get something to fill with them. I think I have rice already...I'm thinking about going to the co-op and getting flax seed and some dried lavender and mint leaves.

Then I started experimenting with fun shapes and different embroidery. I think these are my favorites. Hehe

Check out that sunflower!!!! I am really excited about my embroidery machine. I need to figure out how to use it more often. :)

In other news, I am ALMOST done with my Vogue dress. I inserted the invisible zipper this morning which went together perfectly on the first try!!! (This has never occured before haha) AND I sewed the side seams, tried it on for the first time, and it's PERFECT!!! I can't wait until it's done.  I just need to sew the lining to the zipper and then hem it and tack the front together so I don't flash everyone. :)

Fun!

I made a new bag! Isn't it cute? I based it off of a Martha Stewart pattern, but sewed it up differently because every time I went to turn it right side out, the handles wouldn't turn. What a pain! Anyways, it's done now and I love it:

I also made two aromatherapy pillows. I'm going to make a bunch of these to sell. The girls at knitting gave me a great idea to embroider words on them. Here's the first two I made. I'm pretty happy with them...I wish the ruffle wouldn't be so weird in the corners...I will have to redo the corners to make them look nicer.

They aren't filled yet, obviously...I need to get some filling and yummy scented oils.

Birthday Weekend!

Well, I had the most amazing birthday this year!!

I already mentioned my wonderfulness at knitting & work...but then on Friday, I got home, got ready to go to the gym and then went outside to check the mail. I saw this guy there out of the corner of my eye...and I went back into my apartment thinking "hmm...that looked kinda like my brother".

Then I left again so I could walk to the gym and my mom and brother were standing there!!!!

They came to visit me as a surprise! (10 hour drive)

YAY!!!!!!!!

HEHEHEHE

Thanks, Mom & Yale! You are awesome!!

DALEKS!!!!

This is what my super awesome husband got me for my birthday:

Hehehe..it hasn't arrived yet, though. He also got me something else but won't tell me until it gets here! Hrmph.

:) I can't wait until my Daleks arrive!!!!!!!

As promised...

Better pictures!!!

Yay!!!

Also, I DID end up lengthening the sleeves. I took out the hem and redid it at about 1/4". Then I redid the lining hem. It's WAY better now. As you can see in the last picture, when I raise my hands now, my sleeves don't hike way up. Yay!

Also....

Happy birthday to me, happy birthday to me! Hehe. Yep, today is my birthday and all week, my friends have been super awesome! So I wanted to say THANK YOU EVERYONE!!!

At knitting on Tuesday night, my friends made me the most scrumptious honey cake, brought wine and brought Mary Kay foot baths. Best. Knitting. Night. Ever! Hehe. Everyone came and made the day super special. It was really sweet.

Yesterday, we celebrated at work because nobody would be there today. We had a really delicious tostada pizza from The Ambassador and a Dairy Queen ice cream cake!!!!!! Yum!!!

Thanks, everyone! You are all awesome!

Oh..and Matt got me a gift, but he won't tell me because it hasn't arrived yet!!!! Hehe
